DFI Week 8

Week 8 and our last week of DFI. We have been here for 8 sessions and it has been a great journey attending this course, learning more about Manaiakalani and its pedagogy. Next week is the exam that our whole cohort is going to partake in. Anxious people about the test but we will do our best.

Computational Thinking is the new Digital Technologies Curriculum.
It is a Designing and developing Digital Outcomes and Computational Thinking is Progress Outcomes.
A digitally fluent person can decide when and why to use specific digital technologies to achieve a specific task or solve problems.
Empower for both Teachers and Learners to enable
Taking back ownership of our lives.
Us as a community taking back our ownership of living and being able to live. How does our community manage to get through each week, each month, and each year by only living on a $19,000 income for the year. This is not a beneficiary person either, this income is from a couple that work close to 50 plus hours a week.

We were also asked by our Manaiakalani leader to come up with an ending for this great saying.
"The greatest joy comes from Empowering students".

TO STRIVE TO SUCCEED!

SCRATCH CREATE TASK

USING CODING IS FUN BUT DOES TAKE UP A LOT IF TIME AND CONCENTRATION.
Today we had to used Scratch as our create task, we were asked to create and code 4 different sprites and those sprites doing different things within our scratch project. Take a look at my coding and comment on what I can keep or change.

Week 7 DFI

This week in our DFI course we learnt about Devices, We started off with the history of Manaiakalani focussing on Ubiquitous Learning, and how do you say this word, (You Bit Quit Us) and what does this word mean, It means it can be found or looked for anytime, anywhere, any pace and any one. We then looked at the Chromebook device and all the different uses and shortcut keys to use, totally different for Macbook users. Once we had a look and play around with Chromebooks, we then had a look at student ipads, wow wee that was something else especially when my learners are chromebook users, I havent yet been in a class to observe or see how they work with ipads. The picture below is me trying to use a create tool on the ipad.

Here is my create task that we had to complete today. We had to create a cybersmart slide deck,  I chose to do Smart Values, I used 3 values that we hear all the time in Manaiakalani and in our school, I also put some maori words to the pakeha words and then created a create task for people to complete.

Week 6 DFI

Today in DFI we continued with creating a Google Site.  I have based my site around my Literacy Class and their Reading. I am wanting to keep everything the same and uniform, getting my students to understand the levels in me creating this site.  First level is a warm up level that the student do for 10 to 15 mins once they get into class, Second section is the groups and their reader for the week

Third section is the level where the learner will challenge themselves with these next lot of readings and having to create with these stories too, the Last section is the follow up section where the students choose a different follow up task to complete each day of the week.

I am hoping to keep everything the same and just change levels 2 and 3 each week. I will trial this site once I have all the resources I need before publishing it to my learner site. I will see how this site works when I use it in class, if all goes well then I will be creating a similar site like this for my maths class.
